A: The content of this course has been informed by Elders and Aboriginal youth workers as well as current research on Aboriginal youth suicide.

A: This course discusses protective and risk factors as they apply to Aboriginal youth who may be risk at suicide. Practical strategies on involving the community; working with youth in urban and Reserve settings; warning signs; legal requirements; and promoting protective factors such as cultural continuity are discussed.

A: This is an on-line course and topics will be covered by Elders, Aboriginal youth workers and subject matter experts.
Q: What methodology is used?
A: This course utilizes adult-learning principles and provides variety of learning mediums. The course incorporates ‘story telling’; video; learning and talking strategies; case-studies where participants/users have the opportunity to apply knowledge; interactive Flash exercises; quizzes; and discussion groups.

A: This course is for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal caregivers and professionals working with Aboriginal youth.
Q: What will be the outcomes of this course?
A: Trained graduates will have immediate increase in the communities’ capacity to prevent suicide as well as:
- Access to research and Elders’ experience in addressing youth suicide prevention;
- Develop infrastructure that will support life choices for youth at risk of suicide;
- ‘Cultural continuity’ giving youth a stronger sense of belonging and identity
