The River of Life Course about Aboriginal Youth Suicide has been created for individuals working with youth ages fifteen to twenty-four.  The course discusses strategies designed to strengthen the protective factors of youth at risk.  The material focuses on providing participants who work with youth the knowledge to respond to youth at risk of suicide.

Millbrook Technologies in partnership with the Centre for Suicide Prevention and the Canadian Aboriginal Leadership are extremely pleased to present River of Life, the first ever Online Suicide Prevention Certificate Program.

Incorporating the input of Elders and Aboriginal youth workers, this course is designed to provide information for caregivers, community supporters and professional practitioners working with Aboriginal youth at risk of suicide.

The River of Life program is not an intervention course - although it provides intervention strategies, the course explores the history and culture of First Nations communities in order to provide a historical context for risk factors as they relate to aboriginal youth. The course material provides non-Aboriginal and Aboriginal caregivers a better understanding of the history which enhances the protective factors mitigating the risk of suicide.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth in Canada - since 2000, First Nations people have been twice as likely as non-native people to die by their own hand. That is why Millbrook Technologies, the Centre for Suicide Prevention and the Canadian Aboriginal Leadership have formed this partnership to develop the River of Life Online Suicide Prevention Certificate Program combining historic Aboriginal community context with suicide research and advocacy to decrease the suicide rate among Aboriginal youth.

River of Life is a result of the Aboriginal communities' passion, vision and recognition of the need to address suicide within the youth population. Please support the Resolution tabled at this years' general assembly and pre register today!
